Tips to enter the broadcast industry

The NTV7 crew, consisted of En. Zaman, Jasmine Abu Bakar and En. Manan Osman, shared a lot of interesting information about the broadcasting world during the career talk on June 16, 2010 at HELP University College.

For those of you, who are interested in broadcasting and could not attend the career talk, here are a few criteria that you need to have before getting yourself into the industry.

1. Interest

You need to be interested in the industry. Being passionate in what you do, will determine your success in the future.

2. Commitment

When you have the passion in your job, commitment will come naturally.

3. All-rounder

Newscaster: As a newscaster, you have to know that your job requires you to do more than reading the news at 8pm. You also need to monitor the content before it goes on air. You need to do some on-field reporting, attend events, emceeing, do charity work and lots more.

Broadcast journalist: Even when your area of specialty is crime, you need to know about other areas, too. You need to know about sports, politics, entertainment and many more. Get yourself updated with the current affairs of all the different areas.

4. Talent

News casting is not something you can learn from your lecturer. It is not something that you can study from the book. It requires talent and skills.

5. Be sensitive

As a newscaster, you are not to read the news blindly. You need to know the story before-hand. Remember that you have to convey the message to the audience, not read to them. Use different tones for different types of story.

So, do you have what it takes?
